We are an animal owning country.
Americans own almost 90 million cats and
74 million dogs. Almost 2/3’s of American
households contain at least one pet; almost
half have more than one. American pet
owners routinely describe their pets as
their best friends or as family members. Yet
some four million animals are euthanized
each year and many more suffer abuse and
neglect. As property under the law, our
animals need our voices to protect their
welfare.
